Seasonal Affective Disorder, referred to as SAD, is a certain type of depression that occurs in the fall and winter months. Although it may seem common to feel down during the cold, dark months of the year, it's a serious condition that carries many of the same symptoms as chronic depression. Those experiencing SAD can develop thoughts of death and become suicidal. Even in minor cases of SAD, sufferers can experience loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and loss of interest in daily activities. Fortunately, there are cures for SAD that don't require psychiatric therapy or medication.
